NaNo Results

Okay, just done my first NaNo, and feels good to go get a lot of writing down, even if I did fall a little short of the 50,000 word target.

Well… maybe a lot short.

Definity short.

I wrote 17,419 words of my novella Amanidas, increasing the total wordcount to 29,866. And you know what? I am stoked with that result.

I have been in such a slump with my writing lately, and to pump out almost 20,000 words feels incredible. And to now be about two thirds of the way through Amanidas is also an incredible feeling, especially now that it means I’m up to all the actiony scenes now, and hopefully they go quick. I really hope that I can keep this habit of writing every day up, even if not at this level. My most productive day last month was November 20th, where I wrote 2150 words, but if I can get a 1000 word daily target I’ll end up being super productive. Who knows, by next November I might be up for the big 50,000 target.

Of course, I think I’m two thirds of the way through Amanidas. This idea started out as an under 3000 word quick story idea, and has really gotten out of control. Which is fitting, since events in the story are about to get out of control. But yeah… let’s see how long this story ends up when all is said and done. Might grow even bigger than I expect.

As for when Amanidas will be ready to share… unfortunately not for a while. First I need to finish this first draft, and then it will need to be edited. I already know a bunch of stuff will get re-written. Then depending on how long it ends up will determine if it goes up on this site or if I find a different publisher. I’ll aim to have it finished next year at least.

In the meantime, I do have five stories currently making the rounds amongst the short fiction magazines, and a few more projects in development. Things may be quiet for a while whilst I finish this bigger Amanidas project, but I’ll be back with more stories to share soon.
