Hello 2025 – Book Bingo and a New Story

Hi everyone, congratulations on making it to level 2025. Let’s hope this one goes as well as it can, considering everything that was set up in the last chapter.

I talked in my last post, way back last year, about some of the things I wanted to do this year. Here’s a link to that post for a reminder. In the meantime though, let me just provide a quick list.

  • Post monthly artwork related to the World of Green and Black series
  • Publish the next World of Green and Black novella
  • Have more short stories published
  • Finish my novel Robot Town
  • Complete a 100% glitchless Ocarina of Time run
  • Complete the 2025 Book Bingo card.

2025 Book Bingo Card

Time to unveil my 2025 Book Bingo Challenge. I have made a bingo generator that can shuffle over 200 challenges, and these are the 24 I rolled this year. Well, to be honest I got a couple of repeats from last year, so it’s more like an amalgamation of two different randomly generated cards. Still though, I’m excited for this challenge.

A five-by-five bingo card with the following challenges, listed row-by-row and left-to-right:

Row One: 1. Written by Terry Pratchett 2. Locus Award for Best Horror Novel Winner 3. Breaking a Curse 4. Translated from Russian 5. Written in Your Year of Birth
Row 2: 1. Set on a Spaceship 2. Told from a ‘Villain’ POV 3. World Fantasy Award Winner 4. Been Adapted into a Movie 5. Been Sitting on the Shelf for More Than a Year
Row 3: 1. Title Starts with O 2. Has Dragons 3. Free Square 4. Afrofuturism 5. Written Between 1930 - 1950
Row 4: 1. Set During the Cold War 2. King Arthur (Retelling, Inspired, or Original) 3. Has Witches 4. Has Immortality 5. Australian, Canadian or New Zealand Author
Row 5: 1. Translated from Japanese 2. Non-Marvel or DC Superheroes 3. Has Ghosts 4. Title Starts with P 5. Short Fiction Magazine

I already have a few books in mind for these challenges. The ‘Sitting on the Self for More Than a Year’ is almost a free square considering how many unread books I have to choose from. Also, I just found Naomi Novik’s Temeraire in an op shop the day after I rolled this card. Must be a sign or something. In previous years the Book Bingo card was just some background fun, but this year I’m making it a goal. If anyone else wants to play along, go for it. Just please keep the website link on the card if you share it around.

Oh yeah, basic rules for the challenge. Each book can only be used once, no format restrictions, and I’m giving myself until the end of the year to complete it. Everything else seems pretty self-explanatory.

Ground Beneath my Feet, Ground up in the Sky

If you’ve checked out my featured story for this month, you may have noticed that it’s something new. Well, new for the site. Ground Beneath My Feet, Ground Up In the Sky was written in 2020 for a Reedsy writing prompt competition, and to be honest I didn’t think much of it at the time. I went back through some writing prompt stories not long ago though, and as I was re-reading this piece I realised that I actually do like it. And I hope all of you will like it to. I polished it up, tweaked the title, and now you can read it HERE.

Whilst I’m not sure I’d ever go back to Reedsy, I did really enjoy the weekly writing prompt stories. Hopefully when my studies are done I’ll have some time to do some more quick story-writing excercises.

And that’s what I’m thinking of doing for 2025. I think this is going to be a challenging year, but as long as society doesn’t collapse I think it’ll be a good one. Though I must admit, I don’t like thinking about the fact that we’re nearly done with the first quarter of the century. I don’t like feeling old.

Happy reading everyone,

~ Jayde
