The Feeding and Breeding Habits of Southern Treasure Mimics

So big news, I have had another short story published in a fiction magazine. Check out The Feeding and Breeding Habits of Southern Treasure Mimics over at Dirty Magick Magazine. Also, I drew a little mimic sketch to celebrate.

Two treasure closed chests sit side by side. The one on the left is clearly a mimic, with teeth around the lid and two small green limbs at its sides. It is blocky, made of dark brown wood and gilded in gold. A blue speech bubble with a pink love heart is coming out from it, and it is directing a tiny red heart towards the other chest.
The chest on the right is slimmer and taller than the other, with no visible teeth or limbs, but a tiny musical note is directed towards the other chest. It is made of light-brown wood and gilded both with gold along the edges, and silver inlays with a swirling pattern. It has a heart-shaped lock over it's lid. There is nothing in the background.

I’m really happy to see this little story picked up at Dirty Magick, since it was a lot of fun to write and honestly, I wasn’t expecting anyone to buy it. It is a story about mimics. Of the southern treasure variety. Fictumthesaurum podexia. And about how they feed. And breed. Dirty Magick editor C.D. Brown described this story as “goes all NatGeo on mimics” and I couldn’t have put it better.

Dirty Magick itself is a fairly new magazine, with my story appearing in the 9th ever issue. So far, I’ve been enjoying it. The other stories in issue 9 sound like a lot of fun too, and I’m looking forward to kicking back with my author copy tonight. So, yeah, I’d recommend giving Dirty Magick a go (though, I am pretty biased), and here are some links.

Again, I’m just stoked that someone else, besides my husband, friends and family liked one of my stories, and I hope it goes well out in the wide world and other people like it.

Happy Reading,
